The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra0
The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) is the oldest orchestra in Korea.
Founded in year 1948 SPO held their first concert in February 1948 with Maestro Seong-Tae Kim as a conductor.
During that period, Seoul Philharmonic Society was founded to support the activities for the orchestra.
on June 1950, the orchestra had to suspend their activities due to Korean War after finished the concert in Seoul Civic Hall
but 5 months later they performed under the name the Naval Symphony Orchestra to soothe the Korean during the war.
The Seoul Metropolitan council had colaborated a Civic Orchestra and the Naval Symphony Orchestra into The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra,
in August 1957. With the support from the goverment in Korea, western symphonic literature had introduced to the Korean citizen and
young talented mucisians had a big opportunity to join and perform in the orchestra.
Kyung-Sook Lee, Kun-Woo Paik, Kyung-Wha Chung, Dong-Suk Kang and Myung-Whun Chung are some of the name who were blossom from this orchestra.
in June 2001 The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra was relaunched as an incorporated foundation with the aim of becoming a world class orchestra.
and in year 2006 They held a Beethoven cycle, a Brahms series in year 2007 and a Materpieces Series in year 2008.
Now The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra serves as one of the nation’s symbols of dynamic develompment and hopes for the future and every year, there is a free concerts which is broadcast troughout the country in Korean Liberation Day.
