Who still remembers the 2002 World Cup semi-finals with the South Korean team wow-ing the world with their soccer skills? Hong Myung-Bo, the star player from the 2002 South Korean “soccer Dream Team” is now the coach for this year’s World Cup South Korean team. This makes it all the more exciting, doesn’t it? I simply cannot wait to see this Wednesday’s dazzling match!
Other than South Korea, my personal favourites for the World Cup will always be Germany and the Netherlands. Germany has yet to play their first game this World Cup but the Netherlands has already amazed the world in their match against Spain where they beat the 2010 World Cup champions Spain with a full-time score of 1-5.
While the World Cup matches this time round are really late (1 am, 4am, 7am, 10am Korea Time), I enjoy staying up and supporting my favourite teams. It’s interesting to see the kind of energy the players get from their audiences. Not only does it fill up the atmosphere, it definitely also serves as the boost for them to do better for the country.
This Wednesday’s match against Russia will be the deciding match for which country makes it to the Round of 16. Let’s give all our support to our South Korean team, shall we?
Who’s ready to cheer 대한민국 (Dae Han Min Guk)!
